Something To Ponder

The strongest of all human emotions is not love or hate, sadness or joy. It is GUILT.  Guilt will cause us to do more to try to erase our past and more to try to make up for it.  It will cause us immense grief as we replay its causes over and over again in our minds.  It will lead to stress, which is a contributing factor in 90% of all medical issues.  It will lead to the deep fear that the Bible warns us against.

Perhaps the most grievous aspect of guilt is the knowledge that it is our own failures that brought it about.  This is why it is one of Satan’s most effective weapons against us.  If he can bring us to the point where we are more focused on our failures than we are on Jesus Christ, he can distract us from our goal of serving the Lord.  That is why the following scripture is so encouraging to me.

Psalm 103

9 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.

10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

God did not send his son to die for us because he thought we could be perfect.  He did so because he KNEW  we were not.  And, because he did so, he can pardon us from our sins and spare us from their consequences.  The only thing he requires of us is the same thing he required of the sinful woman at the well in John 8:11 “go, and sin no more.”  Are you struggling with a past failure of sin?  Is Satan trying to convince you that you can never be used by God?  Trust in God’s mercy, repent, go, and sin no more and you can be free of your guilt.
